Could we be getting an update next month?
Possibly Canons first non telephoto prime with image stabilization?

Why do you need IS on such a wide lens? are you shooting portraits in the dead of night?

Yea definitely not. 35/1.4 IS... why?
I don't understand the vagaries of lens manufacturing but it has been said here that the lenses are made in batches so once something gets a run on it, it may be out of stock while the new batch is distributed. And the 35L was just on rebate, wasn't it? I wouldn't mind a mark II version with better AF and an updated barrel / switch design.. 77mm filter wouldn't hurt either. But it hardly needs it.

I wouldn't read to much into this lens being out of stock. When I bought mine 2 years ago, it was out of stock every reputable place I checked. I ordered one through my local camera shop and got it a 2-3 weeks later. Their Canon rep told them that it was the only one being shipped (from Canon) to the entire Midwest region that month. It actually made me feel a little bad (but just a little) to think that some working pro out there who may have really needed it didn't get one because I did. But I eventually got over it.

maybe a 35L with f/1.2 to match the 85L and 50L?

The only 35 f/1.2 design is currently by Voigtlander for a Leica mount. I don't believe there has ever been a 35mm SLR design... anyone? anyone?

I am in the same boat. I have been trying to get one for months. My rep told me that the Olympic Photogs have snatched up all the wide angles.

Can't be - isn't every sports photographer using Noink now?

The Canon 50mm 1.4 lens also looks like it's gettin' a bit harder to find through the usual sources (B&H, Adoroma, Amazon, J&R, etc are all out of stock). Still some out there, but I'm buying a shop's display model at a discount tomorrow. Wonder if I'm making a mistake. I'm particularly fond of shooting live music at clubs and a 50mm 1.4 w/I.S. would really be lovely. Or, dare I hope, a 50mm 1.2 w/I.S., more modestly priced to fit my farm boy-like wages. ;)
Is anybody that knows any inside info talking?
Best,
C. Holmes
