Manchester Mystics(sister team to Manchester Magic) played against Nottingham Wildcats on Sunday, just wanna share some of shots from the game.

I found women's game is so much slower than men's, maybe I could increase ISO to 1250 or even 1000 with 2.8 at 1/250!(1/250 should be fast enough to freeze their movements :p , no offence, but they aren't very fast compare with men's)

womens is very slow...but here their slowness is made up in violence, they often charge in with brutal force. Ive been to one game when someone didnt bleed...often the action in the game isnt all that great though...maybe a layup or two, no one really wants to see baseline shots...and unless its wnba you're probably not going to see a dunk...

quality is good, but i can feel the slowness of the game in the photos

Good exposures and nice sharp pics Gu, but it does look rather pedestrian. Also, I think I'd still like to see the hoop from time to time!

I like these pics Gu, but I think No 4 stands out for me, as it has everything i'd want from a photo of this sport other then the presence of other players... you don't even have to see the hoop in the pic, you know where it is from the girls concentration on a point in space... and her expression is fantastic too... the feeling of speed is certainly in this one for me.

I can't agree more, there were at least 4 occasions of wrestling for the ball on the floor, slow but violent indeed.

Next time I'll try to back it up a bit or even shoot from the side instead of baseline see if i can catch alternative view of actions. :D

Thanks Gavin, I was looking for shots with hoops in too, but didnt find many great ones, will try harder next time, or might just stick 50mm on or get closer.

Also I experienced some strange behaviour from my MK II. In number of occassions shutter refuse to fire even when focus was locked on(from what i can see in the viewfinder), which never happened before. No setting changes, CF.21 is set to focus priority from day 1.

Any ideas?

I've had this happen a couple of time when shooting in these dimly lit gyms - even after the firmware upgrade. Everything looks OK - but squeeze the trigger and nothing happens. I think it's a minor glitch rather than anything serious and is brought about by the low lighting conditions. I have to say it hasn't happened very often - if it's happening to you frequently, it might be worth getting the camera checked over.

Have you tried the camera with a different lens under the same conditions?

This only happened to me last sunday when shooting women's and under 18's basketball game. The thing is I shot men's game the night before at the same venue under the same lighting everything just worked fine.

I'll give it another go soon and try it with 50mm or even 70-200mm and see what happens.

Cheers for the link, Gavin, will definitely keep a close watch on it. :D

Have you not experienced shutter delay when shooting hoops at all?
