i need a filler flash

im getting into portrait photos. i need a desent flash light. i have a canon d40. i also would like to get a remote for it. i have no clue which one i want. so i thought i would go here. any advice on what you guys are using. or what you have would be great.

I have a handle mount Sunpac 522 with batteries , charger .& photoeye remote slave...all you need $100.00 shipped & Paypal
I also have a vivitar 283 converted to bare bulb .....takes AA's or optional battery pack $100.00 .....great for back light or to open up a big dark room
