Remote Control for 40D - RS-80N3

Well, I'm on the market for a remote control (not wireless) for my 40D, and I have few quick questions:

Should I go with genuine Canon remote control (RS-80N3)
or I can just buy on the cheap ones on eBay witch, they claim to work just as well as the RS-80N3.
The price difference is pretty big, $60 vs $10-15
Is it worth spending much more money for something so simple?
Any feedbacks about the remotes from eBay?

most of those china made knock-off brand remotes work perfectly fine. they have the same functions as the ones from canon. i got one for like $20 with no problems or whatsoever.

Yeah, those cheap Chinese made remotes work just fine. I bought one for my ex-350D and one for my current 40D and they work just fine.

I've had one of those cheap ones off ebay for a couple of years and it has worked great everytime.

I will have to chip in with the news that my "alternative branded" wired 40D remote failed within seven months (with rather low usage), and that the borrowed Canon brand I used in it's place after it's failure was much smoother in operation and ultra reliable (worked so well, you forgot about it). The Canon brand was more than three times the price. I eventually bought my own.

However, I do understand that all manufactured products have failure rates, and that I just may have been on the unlucky side of the statistical graph ...

POTN sells one too for about $32. Click the "POTN support shop" at the top of this page. I've used quite a lot and it works great.
