I've reverted to my youth and started playing with crayons... C&C if you'd like...

i like the minimalist effect of this.... the curvey crayons are great.... just for "balance" i would have liked to see the words "black" for the black crayon as the white is visible on the white one....... :)

I like it, and agree entirely with the comments above, just a small rotation of the crayon would have made the black clearer (and lose the crayola url)

Seems to be some lens distortion. :)

Ah, spot on re: the text... Noted and I'll take that into account as the series continues. Thanks very much!

I must say (I completely agree that you should definitely retake this with the black showing right side up) that if you re-do this shot, I would be willing to bet that you could sell it. It has a very positive social aspect to it... I would love to have this hanging on the wall in my classroom. Also, just a thought... you could just flip the photo with black being on the top right, white being lower left and clone out the url on black.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts. Very much appreciated.
This is definately a "series in progress." I'm not usually a studio / table top kind of guy but sometimes the bug bites and I run with whatever whacky thing comes to mind.
I'm trying to improve and expand my table-top / still-life skills so maybe I'm heading in the right direction. I've just added a third flash head so I intend to experiment further with lighting, texture, color and shapes.
Eventually, I want to do some set ups where I can use extremely shallow DOF and crayon tips as subjects as well over both white and black backgrounds.
Thanks again for your time! :D

I agree you might be able to sell this. It's an excellent shot. Worth a print anyway. ;)
