Hey everyone, I recently had a power issue with my Digi Rebel, and when I sent an e-mail to Canon tech support they asked me (by routine I assume) if I was using a Canon lens, as it could cause problems if I wasn't...so basically I was wondering if this is true, I highly doubt it is considering everyone seems to own a Sigma / Tokina / Tamrom at sometime

Here's the part of the e-mail from tech support:

To verify, is a Canon lens being used with the camera body? Canon does not support non Canon equipment. It has not been tested and we do not know the effects. It could cause malfunctions with the camera. If a Canon lens is being used, there maybe other internal issues.

And excuse me if this has been covered some where in another post, I'm new here and all 423492349238492839 threads are quite intimidating! :(

sigma/tokina/tamron/vivtar...etc etc.

if you are asking what other lenses there are. but like canon said, they won't repair a problem with your sigma lens.

Anything is possible,. there have certainly been compatibility issues with 3rd party lenses and Canon cameras. Sigma has an entire range of lenses that were rendered useless after the release of the Elan7 and corresponding Canon DSLRs using similar focus systems (10D etc..)

Canon's point is that they will not service a problem on your Camera if it involves the use of another manufacturers lens.

You may wan't to check to see if your issue is apperent when you have a Canon lens mounted, or only when a 3rd party lens is mounted.
