Thanks ben, still trying to get use to natural light as i never use it really, thats why the image isnt as sharp as it could be,also it was a windy day and the dragon was perched on a plant which was moving in the wind.i found this guy in the middle of a farmers feild..soon as we have a hot day im going to the lake..hopefully i will see some there,

1st, great shot(s)....(is the 2nd one a crop of the 1st?)
2nd, I have seen you and brian recently say that this shot is in natural light...is it that much harder to shoot in natural light? If so for me that is unfortunate as I don't have a flash yet and all of my shots are in natural light(except for the rare instance where I use the cameras flash).
3rd, how far from the lens do you think the DF was? I have the sigma 105mm and I had a guy that just sat there and wouldnt move once...unfortunately it was windy and I didnt get very good shots
again very nice shots

1 thing you need to remember..I never crop:) *cough cough croping is for cheats* :D 2nd shot is mayby 2:1 life size..1st one is 1:1.
i never crop because when you crop the image your also croping the file size..and because i upload all my best images to DA if any are croped i can sale them images at full size 3888x2592.
well natural light is a bit harder..for me any way.i do what brian does..tv mode..iso 400-800.shutter speed 400 ish and the camera sets the aperture depending on what the other settings are.
at 1:1 im 100mm away from subject.same as you.
Thanks:)

Brilliant Shots MJ, I'm fairly new to macro so my question is to get 2.1 did you use a close up filter on your 100mm.

thanks..i dont use a 100mm..i use canon mpe-65mm 1-5x macro lens which alows me to get 1:1 - 5:1 with no tubes addad.
if i didnt have mpe-65 i would buy a full set of kenko tube and add them to my 60mm macro lens
i only have 3 lens
canon mpe-65mm
canon 60mm
canon 18-55mm
