But if you are familiar with Freecycle.org ....

Basically the idea is to keep things out of landfills, and to give away things you don't need to someone who could use it. Likewise, you can post a request for something you are looking for and sometimes you get lucky...

So I'm on a daily e-list here in Arizona and the following post came up today....

My daughter just enrolled in high school after years of homeschooling and
the only elective available to her was photography. We now need a SLR
camera (film, not digital) for her class. If anyone has an old one
collecting dust we would love to have it and put it to great use. She
borrowed a classmates for one day and shows great talent, but can¹t keep
borrowing someone else's camera. $ is tight with all the lab fees, etc.
that come with the beginning of school, so we really appreciate it!
