Just got done reading a test report (Popular Photography) on the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark ll and there was mention how contrast, sharpness, and white balance can be fined tuned to duplicate the characteristics of low-contrast portrait films or super-saturated slide films. My DRebel has the ability to adjust these parameters and I hadn't given to much thought about tweaking them until now. I rather like the idea of replicating some of the films I had been used to and I'm wondering if anyone has tried this and found some settings that they could pass along.

There is a "Color matrix" setting in the 1D and I think 1D MkII that will give a more saturated look... I can't recall which one it is though...

These settings are applied directly to jpegs,.. or can be applied at conversion from RAW files,..

With Breezebrowser,.. you can shoot straight RAW and then when converting apply any of the color matrixes the camera offers as if you had set it when taking the photo on the camera. I assume Canon DPP software would allow the same flexibility.

At coversion I often switch from matrix to another to see what looks best,. though I shoot mostly in AdobeRGB

Check www.fredmiranda.com. They do a PhotoShop plugin called Velia Vision that allows you with a slider and a few other controls to adjust the image mimicking the effect of Velvia slide film. I find it much quicker and easier than doing this with the combination of the usual PhotoShop adjustment controls.
