Yesterday I received a 50mm f/1.8 lens for my birthday and went around taking pictures of everything with it. We are currently moving into a new apartment and my friend and left his mirror laying around and it looked really cool to try and take a self-portrait in. This is how it came out. Your opinions, as always, are greatly appreciated.

It doesn't look serious enough.
Your portrait reminds one a little of the signature self-portrait of Herbert Keppler who died early this year at 82.
You might want to study it as a classic self-portrait.
You're on the right track - keep up the good work!

I think it's a nice shot, and fairly typical. What gives it away as a mirror shot is the lettering on the strap. I like the WB and color tone most to the picture... very natural... not sure why the photo needs to be any more serious as Robert suggests.

I think when I said "serious" I meant "formal". I was thinking about how long Keppler's self portrait ran in his monthly columns - probably for over 50 years. In other words, you want to look good, if there's any chance that you're going to be around that long!
