Trying my hand at 4X and 5X...at the suggestion of "macrojunkie". I used some honey to bait the ant...before too long there were heaps of them drinking away! Not the greatest 'mug' shot..but I'll be taking more over the weekend...hopefully I can get one looking at me. These guys were on a step so it was difficult to get in front of them. The modelling light of the 24EX was very helpful...but needs to stay on for longer. Is there a way to do that?
I didn't realise but I had the ISO set to 400...must have forgot to change it from the last photos...so I used some noise reduction for these.:)

Hi Scott,
It was around 4.30pm when I took the photos, so the light was fading. The ants were on the small step that leads to our undercover area, adjacent to the back garden. In normal daylight it wouldn't be a problem, but I found the modelling lights quite helpful. I just set the flash to CF9 (1) allowing the lights to come on by double half pressing the shutter of my 20D, meaning you don't have to take your eyes off the viewfinder. However, the lights go off after 6 seconds...strange, as if you press the lamp button on the flash unit the lights stay on for around 20 seconds. A definite flash design fault in my opinion...you should be able to keep them on until you trigger the flash:)
