Hi, i have from somtime a digital camer Canon A80, and i am a disapointed with the quality of pictures, i dont know if there is a problem with camer, or with the way i am using it. I have a friend with a cheaper, camer, Olympus C-350 zoom, and the photos that he takes, are better than mine. I regulary use the auto shoot mode, but the image lacks clarity, contrast. I am not realy used with camer controls, so i atached a pictures, to tell if something wrong with camer, or with me. I am wondering if there is some sort o photo test
for camera to see if it is ok or not?

What settings are you using? - check to see if you are at the highest picture quality/resolution setting - not familiar with A80 - but I assume ISO can be set as well - try lowest ISO setting

Something is definitely wrong there, vd. That second one looks like it was printed on a canvas or something. A80 pics are real crisp and clear when taken right. Hang in there untill one of these pros get a look at them and they'll probably be able to tell you whats wrong.
Yea, Geeeyejo. The A75 has 50, 100, 200 and 400. I'm sure the A80 has at least that. Do like Geeeyejo says and try setting your ISO on 50 and see what happens, vd. (nice birds eye view there, by the way)

I have an A70 and have never gotten anything like that second picture. The first almost looks OK but not quite. How about a few more examples of photos? My A70 gets very nice fine detail and I often leave the ISO on the Auto setting. I don't see how the ISO setting could cause that second photo. That almost looks like a special artistic effect you might get out of Jasc Paint Shop Pro, not an unedited Jpeg from an A80.

They look like they were taken at a low resolution or at a low quality setting. I can see the jaggies in thwe second shot. I would check your quality settings. Use the largest image and the fine quality settings.

Here are some I took with my A80:

Now, these are small compared to the origionals, but I am always impressed with the sharp imagines.
Your first picture looks like its out of focus and the second is awful, assuming there is nothing wrong with the cam check the ISO is on a low number, quality is is on maximum and the size is on the largest size.
On auto you should get nice sharp shots, the 9 point focusing system is pretty good, and should focus right on the dog in the first pic.
Good luck, let us know what happens :)

Hi, and thanks for reply.
I posted some photos , without any editing or compresion here

i Must say, that i dont have to much experience with digital or analogic photografy, the river picture is taken using a tripod, the other with the house, was take without on ,and on big resolution. Most of the picture 90% i am using auto mode.
And i ask, is there any way to test the camer using some sort of grid/photo/macro to test camer, as i bought the camer from another country and IF if something wrong with camera it is difficult if not imposibile to repair it using waranty.
And one more thing, i have borrowed the camere some time ago to a friend, and after that i have noticed it has been damaged in exeterior (a small hit, on edge of camer), and the CF door, does not close perfectly.
The picture with lower number is taken before the camer beeing damaged. Thanks

haven't u tried to reset the whole DC yet?
i think it would be a cue to fix it by pressing 'menu' for 5 sec and follow the instruction right after.
hope it can help u.

whatever the problem is, don't worry, it's not the quality of the camera (the A80 takes cristal clear pictures when used properly). So it's either a technical problem or you need to change your settings

I have been looking for a Canon A80 and I understand they have discontinued making them. I liked the flip out view finder and know that A95 has one but I am not that serious about picture taking to pay the price. The A75 has had great reviews and I am leaning toward it rather than the A85? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I'd recommend the A75. I've been using mine since Oct. and am very pleased with it. Especially for the money. I'm shopping for bigger and better now but I'm not gonna let go of my A75. Heres a couple of sample pics from mine.

Not sure how it compares to the A75 in terms of features, but the A70 is also very good.

I notice that only the oldest photo was taken (or att least posted) at the camera's maximum resolution. All the others are at substantially reduced resolution, which won't give you anything close to what the camera's capable of.
My A80 has been battered around a fair bit (4+ foot fall onto pabement, knocked off the couch by a frolicking dog) with the result that there are a couple of dents in the casing and the top's sprung (held back down with tape), but pictures seem to still be OK. It was turned off when it fell both times; still it seems incredibly robust.
The A70, like the A80, is now out of production. The A85 has the same 4 MP resolution of the A80, but without the fold-out screen. I must say, that screen is the feature about the A80 I like the best. When/if I replace it with another P/S that's going to be a must. Unless the price is a major factor, I'd get the higher-end of your two options (A85 over A75, or A95 over A85) when you're trying to decide. The better resolution is good to have unless you know, beyond the merest sliver of a shadow of a doubt, that you're not going past 5x7 prints.
