Just wondering what people use. I shoot in raw and 2gb never seems to be enough.

Used an 8GB in the Rebel XTi. Switched to a 16GB when I got the 40D, since the 14-bit RAW takes up more room.

4gb. i only shoot raw so that equates to roughly 300 pictures per card. during weddings i may have to switch cards twice at most, and i sleep better knowing that i won't lose a whole wedding due to one card malfunction. if i were lead, i might use a 8gb because i'm guessing if i ever got that serious i'd have a 1d series with dual cards stacked. ;)

i dont see a point in buying 8gb for walk around... with 32gb under 100 bucks, might as well get one :) also, dont get suckered into buying extemes or something like that for this...

I always shoot in raw, and use a 4GB in the XT and an 8GB in the 40D. Seems to be sufficient for casual walk-around.

If I'm walking around I usually use the 2GB and swap the cards as needed. If it is a specific event I am shooting I will use a 4GB. Don't find it a problem to swap cards.
Don't believe in putting all my eggs in one basket so feel comfortable with several smaller cards.

Well when you have a 16GB card that you've already bought for a purpose other than 'walkaround', there's really no point to putting in a smaller card. I'm OK with it not getting filled up on hiking trips. :-)

Awesome. Yeah I think I might pick up an 8gb and 4gb just because when I'm shooting promos for people I am really pushing it with only a 2gb, and with 4 or 8 I don't have to worry about cleaning it off as often for causal shooting. Thanks guys!

Only have 4GB cards. Not a big deal to carry an extra if need be. 400 photos tends to be enough just walking around.

For just getting around, I have 4 4gb cards ready to go. For events, the same 4 cards and add 4 more.

I did use 4G and 2G cards until I got a 1D III and for those occasions where I shoot RAW there 4G ain't what it used to be... so I have a few 8G cards now for those really long days. Thought about just having more 4G cards as backup against losing everything in case of failure but given that I can back up everything to the second card now it wasn't as appeailng as it was before.

I carry (2) 2 gig cards and one (4) gig card around at all times. Started off shooting jpeg only and that was plenty of storage, in fact never used up a 2 gig card in one day. Now that I have found RAW, I may need a bigger cards soon.

With a 40D!?! Heck yeah. There are times I shoot with one card thinking it'll be enough and next thing I know I have less than 50 photos left and I just grab another.

Well space hasn't been a big problem for me as yet, because I seem to be still stuck in the 35mm film frame of mind. That is to say, that when ever I go out to shoot it seem I still think I'm using film and so everything is shot in multiply of (36) usually around what would be (4) rolls of (36) exposure film. Hard habit to break, even know shooting digital is free. Guess that comes from being taught to plan your shots before pushing the shutter.;)

darn good skill to have there, too. took me quite a while to acquire that - I spent a good amount of time with my 20D happily blazing away without putting too much thought into it. If I ever come across some very small CF cards for cheap I'm going to try and find out what it was like to have ~20-30 shots per "roll" :D

JimG,
Thanks, of course that doesn't mean that all my planned shots come out as planned.

I'm a little paranoid after experiencing catastrophic card failure during a paying assignment with a borrowed N'k'n slr. Losing 2gb of photos is a very bad thing but I can still survive this with a little extra time and effort. The lost of 8gb or 16gb of photos is officially a total disaster. I currently carry eight, 2gb cards in two gepe carriers and change out as needed. I shoot mostly in RAW+jpg mode and I've not run out of gig space during a shoot yet.

I own 5 8gb cards and only one 4gb. I think at 12MP the 8gbs are a happy medium.

I have one 8Gb card for each camera (just purchased the 2nd last week), started out with 2x1Gb, but these are filled up too quickly shooting raw. I have a 2Gb from a year ago too, which is good to use if one of the 8Gb cards are full.
16Gb would take me a long time to fill, and I'd probably forget to back it up as often, so 8 is perfect for me.
