Just purchased Hoodman DRebel LCD hood which flips up and screen cap...very neat.
Reduces glare outside and protects LCD from scratches in bag or elsewhere.
Be sure to remove the plastic film on the hood before installing.
See at www.hoodmanusa.com .

congrats on your buy, but to me that seems a uselss tool. i can cover my screen with my hand and not have to flip up a cover. and i have taken my 10D apart so many times now that if i break my screen or scratch it enough that i can't see the histogram, i can replace it, and the new canon part is 10 bucks.

let us know how you like it.

How secure is that flip up hood. It does not appear that it could be on to securely by just sliding over the eye peice? does it secure to any part lower down on the camera?

Don't make one for the 20D that stinks

IMHO waste of money.

Canon DSLRs don't have their LCD exposed. It's a plastic cover.

The cover is hard. It doesn't scratch easily. It costs 10 bucks to replace.

I had some screen protectors for PDAs and cell phone screens left so I stuck it on my 300D. Dust kinda snuck under it, but hey... at least it's not scratching :)

Dante, the assembly is quite stiff and fits snugly with minimum give at the bottom.

As to the $10 replacement comments, yes, it may be a bit of overkill from that perspective, but it keeps my foggy breath and greasy facial oil off the screen, too, which is not so much a replacement issue, but an irritant.

Hum, maybe not for my 20D but by the way I've found 2 amazing gizmos for my G5. Especially useful when the sun is toooooooo bright. ;)

I have that problem too, but i just wipe it off with either my finger or T-Shirt.

I can't see anyone on here using the flip up on the 10D or other camera it fits. You can't take a picture with it in the open position and most everyone on here likes to view their image after it's taken... even if it's just a quick glance. :D Can you see the sports photographers taking a picture, flipping it up, looking, closing it, taking another picture, etc., :D I guess it would be ok for tripod shooters or studio shooters. It looks neat, but I think it's one of those things sold for appearance sake rather than practicality. Besides, I have a D30 and 10D that have been used in field conditions and I've not scratched the LCD cover yet. Nose and cheek grease yes, but no scratches.

Slips easily on and off for those times when you want to use the LCD more heavily. No adhesive is required. I use it like a lens cap so far as storage in bag is concerned.

yes, i agree, I have had my camera in the worst conditions and never got any scratches, and I don't baby my camera. i guess i take for granted the metal case, but that's why it was made with a metal case. the screen, as long as i can see the histogram, i'm cool and a quick framing check. that hood would be a hassle to me more then anything.
