Which do you prefer - a clean, but comfortable look or a tuxedo, tie and a perfectly ironed shirt? Do you care about your looks, or just about the freedom to move/run/lie down whenever and wherever you like? Could you post your opinions/experiences please?

I moved your thread to Business as you didn't have a photo to share.
I shoot events a lot, and always ask the client what the dress is for the occasion. For formal attire, being a woman, I wear black, either a dress or a suit or black tee-shirt with black pants and shoes. The idea is good fit, comfort and ease to get around without standing out. I shoot at the wedding ceremony also, where formal attire should not be black and I wear a nice shirt and skirt combo. The goal is to not stand out, be clean and neat and comfortable. Make sure you are not calling attention to yourself ever.
Now, if you were here in the forum a year or so ago, you would know we talked about loose pants. :) Make sure your clothes fit well, or else other photographers can take funny pictures of you from behind and post them. :)

I allways say.... Dress like the professional you want others to see you for.

For weddings I wear a black dress shirt with tie and black dockers. Black shoes also, make sure you can go the whole day with them on.
Look like the professional you're supposed to be.

I dress to fit in with the guests, but also to be comfortable. In practice this means black suit-like pants, a dark shirt, black shoes and belt. You can't wear white if there's a videographer around, you stand out like a beacon. You're working hard, so wear lightweight clothes. Even in the middle of winter I wear this and don't get cold, in the middle of summer I sometimes wear a very lightweight

Depends on the event. Some events I'll wear a suit and tie, and others I'll wear nice slacks with comfortable dress shoes and a dark colored polo shirt with my business logo on it.
Never show up to a gig wearing tennis shoes and blue jeans and old navy t-shirt. I once saw that at a wedding, and I was horrified at the photographer's lack of decorum.
If you don't care about how you look when you're representing your business, you probably don't care about how your photos look either. That's just my perception.

Dark dress slacks, white shirt (I just think the white shirt looks more professional), tie, sports coat... but the single most important thing to have is COMFORTABLE shoes. You will be on your feet 6-8 hours straight so that is a must.

I wear what I think most male guests will be wearing. Over-dressing can be just as bad as under-dressing.

I've been asked by videographers not to wear white shirts, black is much more discrete on video.
