Karate pic C&C Please

I really liked this picture taken with my Canon XTi. There are several things I wish were better about it. I was very very happy with my timing though!!!! This was super fast, and if you miss it, then it over! What should I have done better? How could I have gotten rid of the shadow on his back? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Shadow is pretty much unavoidable when using direct flash and having subject close to a wall. If the ceiling was low enough and reflective enough, you could have tried to bounce the flash off of it which would light things more evenly and minimize shadows behind subject. Also depending on the ambient light, you could have bumped up your ISO to 1600 instead of 400 and tried shooting without flash.
