Thanks that did help a bit but I'm still wondering where it is on my camera. Do I have to press a button on the camera for this to happen? To lock the mirror?

I don't have a hacked drebel. Is it in the menu?

Hey Gail :) This afternoon I had no idea what ML was, now I have it all set up on my rebel hehe. To get to it in the Rebel menu I:

Hit the menu button-->Hit right 3 times (the Wrench/Hammer/2 menu) And at the bottom it should say: Custom Functions(C.Fn)-->Hit Left 6 Times to get to C.Fn 12, the Mirror Lockup-->Hit Right 5 Times to get to the C.Fn 17 which lets you adjust the amount of time the Mirror is locked.

Hope that helped :)

Hey Arsonist lolol :-) so do I just leave it there once I do this. I notice my camera sounds different than before. So do you go back in to Menu each time you want to use mirror lock up and turn on are leave it on all the time. Sorry but I don't quit understand. ???

Yeah it will sound different, the first sound is the mirror going up, and then it will go down and the shutter will go off however many seconds you set the lockup to. (at least I think that's how it works)

I don't have too much experience with it....but so far I've just left it on, I follow the rules that they put on the site I got the firmware from.

WARNING: When using mirror lockup, don’t point the camera at the sun with the shutter button pressed halfway down. Doing so can damage the shutter curtains.

NOTE: Your camera must be set in single shot mode, not in continuous mode.

TIP: You may leave MLU enabled in the CF menu, and switch with the drive mode button between continuous drive mode and single-shot mode, in order to select or deselect MLU. This is a lot quicker!

I only set MLU when I have camera on a tripod and using long exposures. I don't have it set when hand holding because the delay at best is 1.5 seconds before the shutter fires and your subject could be somewhere else by then. Remember that while the mirror is locked up that the viewfinder will be blacked out which can be very disconcerting.

Gail,

With your hacked rebel MLU will only work when you set the Custom Function as described and when the camera is in Single Shot mode. What I used to do when I had mine was keep the function on all the time and I would use the camera in multi-shot mode unless I wanted MLU and then I would set the camera to Single Shot mode. In this way the shutter mode became my way of turning MLU on and off.
