I was a bit surprised that a guy with Glen's reputation had such a small backup group and rather plain lighting for the three songs I was there. He is certainly a very "real" guy, soft spoken and almost a little shy and unsure of himself on the stage. He has enough Country hits to sink a battleship ... I was surprised I knew 'em!

#1 Obligatory collage

#2 For reasons unknown to me he had that ugly music stand sitting about ten fee in front of him that really blocked a lot of otherwise very nice shots as well as that ugly black cloth in front of the keyboardist ... very odd.

#3 Glen had a lot of interesting facial expressions ... I liked the eye contact on this one (he made an effort to look at me several times) even though his mouth is a bit odd.

#4 He only had the four band members shown:

#5 He did some splendid guitar work, relaxed and with a smile. I heard he was a studio musician at one time so I guess that makes sense.

#6 He is a toe tapper:

#7 Another riff (I think that's what you call it!)

#8 He seems like a pretty happy guy:

There are a few more on my website at http://dwightmccann.com/ChumashCasinoResort/GlenCampbell08212008.html for your viewing pleasure.

Rene, I have not installed LR2 yet.

Nice, sharp and clean. But, I don't know who is this :)

That's not surprising ... I don't know 95% of the people I shoot and even less of the ones everyone else shoots! :-) You could Google him or go look here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glen_Campbell).

The music stand is for him to read the music and/or the words. At that age forgetting either is common.

Nice shots dwight. I would love to see Glen in concert. He has been an icon to country music for over 40 years. As for the stand, there could be a number of reasons whys it's there. I have been a musician for 20 years and still from time to time I need to have a stand for some new music or song list. Some venues you have to actually do plugs and they give you notes on what to say.

I love the simplicity of the stage setup and how you captured it, Dwight....

I consider myself rooted in "rock", but have always enjoyed Glen's work....

And, his mugshots :D

Thank you for your replies about the music stand. I have photographed over 150 concerts at this venue and this is the first time a music stand has been placed in this awkward position which blocks a huge line of sight from the audience, particularly those with the most expensive seats in the front/center. Other 'old' musicians have put video monitors on the floor that feed the lyrics and even music, sometimes hidden behind the audio monitors ... some have more than one monitor with twinned outputs for this purpose so they are not locked into a single location on the stage. I expect there could have been a better solution for such a consummate professional with so many years of experience. None-the-less, I am pleased with my images, only some of which include the stand.

Lefty, I'm not as old as him, quite (he is 72 and I am 63), and didn't think you were! So how do you know about this memory loss thing? :-)

Geez, my pictures aren't much better than the mug shots, sigh! He looks damn good for such a substance abuser, but I expect he has had some "augmentation", as have so many performers.

#5 I like best.
#7 and 8 are nice as well.

#3 is from too far away IMO: Perspective gets too flat (specially since he's almost straight to the camera.): Gives him a smallish nose and big ears.
First time that this bothers me in an image ;)

Thanks. I liked the eye contact in #3 ... I was kneeling down in the center aisle about four rows from the front and he gave me a good long look, but since he was singing his facial expression isn't quite right. I don't think it is too far away so much as his look ... he does have big ears and a small nose! :-)

Ahhh Glen Campbell... it's good to see he is still performing.

Great images Dwight but no Rhinestones?

After all his biggest hit was probably Rhinestone Cowboy. He had some real classics including Wichita Lineman and Galveston... he was a country super star. My parents saw him at a casino in Lake Tahoe in 1975 when he was an absolute superstar.

Yup, he was a bit understated at this concert given his reputation and well known hits. He looks good for 72 so I guess he'll be touring for a few more years.

'wichita lineman' is one of the greatest songs ever written. GC was (is?) a helluva a guitar player, and a very in-demand session player in the day.

good shots. glad to see Glen's happy. some of the shots seem a bit hot to me, though my monitor is likely due for calibration.
