Hi,

Im probably going to purchase the Bogen/Manfrotto 3021 tripod, was wondering which head is best for my current equipment (in signature below) for landscapes/outdoors. Also, which type head would be better ball / pan?

Thanks a bunch,
Bill

I prefer pan and tilt heads to ball heads as they seem easier to adjust and more sturdy, unless you get a realy big ball head.
For the tripod your buying id say that either the Manfroto 141RC (Bogen 3030) or the Manfroto 029 (Bogon 3039) would be a good choice, Ive got the latter and find it to be a very good head.

Andy

BTW I cant see your signature ? edit to say Id got it turned off in options :)

When and if you buy the 3021, buy the Pro model. Now for the head, I've blown a wad of money buying and selling different head both ball and pan/tilt, I finally settled on the Acratech http://acratech.net/

I had the Manfrotto 029. It's huge! For your kit buy something smaller. I use the Gitzo G1276M off centre ball head. Sold my pan and tilt head after a year as I never used it again once I got the ball head. If you go for a ball head, ensure that it has horizonal panning as well as the ball. Just plain ball head won't allow you to do panoramas.

I bought the Manfrotto 3001BPro with 3030 head and so far am VERY pleased. Personally I tried out a ball head and couldnt stand it. Then again I moslty do nature/studio work with occasional portrait and rarely ever sports.

Whaler,
Good choice on the Acratech. I've had one for a couple of weeks now and love it. Take a look at the Wimberley lens plates. More expensive than most but the quality and workmanship is second to none.

I have a bogen 486 compact ball head and it is so much better then pan and tilt. go to your local photography store and try the boot out and you will see what I mean.
