Thanks. That was a Rebel with a 135 f/2 L. Great combo for stage closeups. I was also using a 1D Mk2 with a 24-70L for wider shots. Excellent coverage between the two kits.

I was right at the edge of the orchestra pit. :) I took several hundred shots last night and will put them all (resized) on a CD for the parents ($5. What a bargain!). I shoot all the student and stage company productions, including actors headshots. I shoot dresss rehearsals and, during the shows, I shoot from the wings. Great fun! And the actors love the photos. Next up is Cinderella (stage company, not students), then Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (in the studio theatre) and Cats!. I've been doing this for about two years and having a great time.

that's just wonderful
I don't think you used flash ( reading all what you say between this and the other reply )
so seems you were never a bother to anyone
that is great. to be able to have all those pictures recorded on the cd for actors family /friends forever
just wait until they get older
what a treasure to have
those shows which you mention coming soon are terrific
liz taylor was in the film version 'cat on a hot tin roof'
that should be a very dramatic drama on stage:lol:
love the shot here of gollum too
my what big ears he's got:lol:
wonderful

NEVER use flash in a theatre. ;) It absolutely destroys the theatrical lighting. :( If there isn't enough light I don't shoot. It's tricky. Constantly changing shutter speed in low light to keep the aperture light from flashing, often getting too slow to avoid blur. :( . Highlight blowout is another constantly changing problem, especially with spotlights and dark backgrounds. White balance is hopeless because lighting colors are changing frequently, often many times during one scene. The percentage of good shots is pretty low - lots of throwaways, but I put all the shots on the CD and let the actors decide which ones they want. I also try to make sure that every actor gets a couple of closeups and that is not easy when you have 40 people in a mob scene.
Gollum is played by the 12 year old daughter of a good friend of mine. :D That's the part she wanted. Too bad you can't see her movements.
BTW, I also do this for my daughter's dance school.
So many images to be made, so little time.

Great shots Jim, Looks like a lot of fun, I love the Warner theater, what a wonderful preservation project that was (is). Course I have been up there in a long time. Maybe you can post some, if you have them, of the theater itself, I'm sure the folks would love to see one grand old theater.

She's quite talented. :)

:) She would LOVE to, but no, she's a student. She also takes acting classes at the theatre but wasn't in Hobbit. (We're leaving for the theatre in a few minutes to wacth the show).
