Gotta love Dell and their discounts! Anyways... for those who have this lens, I've heard that you need a very thin UV/Haze on these things... any advice?

Thanks,
Adam

I was in Samy's yesterday and came ssooooooo close to getting my self in trouble almost buying one of those. I went into the store to buy one lens (85 1.8) and for some strange reason walked out with only the one lens!!!!!!

Can you still get it for that price?

Yep... just find it on Dell.com with the search, punch in the code that was listed earlier on this site, and it'll take $79, then another $70 after the code... so $150 off and they'll ship it for free. :)

NO. The coupon expired early this morning (SMXS7P$V?QH9VP), unless Adam used a different code.

I was one click away from buying it last night, and changed my mind at the last second because I don't have an immediate need for it right now and want to see what Tamron's 11-18mm is like first.

Oh... well sorry about that then. I used it yesterday and it shipped today. Guess I got it ordered just in time!

Keep checking the coupon sites as Dell repeats these coupon offers quite often.
I ordered the 17-85IS for $497 total (I'm also in a tax state).

...want to see what Tamron's 11-18mm is like first.

You might also want to consider Tokina's ATX Pro 12-24 f4.0. Same as with Tamron's 11-18, it's for APS-C sized sensor only.

this does work with a 300D straight up right?

I didn't look for a specially thin one, just put a "regular" on it and got no vignetting even @ 10mm (fully open/closed).

Yes, I have had mine for a couple of months using it on a 300D and 20D.

Have not bought a filter for it, glad to hear that I don't have to spend the extra $ for the thin version.

It's a nice lens, but it is superwide which is both it's charm and it's weakness because it suffers to some extent from flare (easily controlled) CA and distortion.

Minimal flaws for a lens that gives digital 1.6X camera a truly wide angle.
