Audi Sport has proven without a doubt that you don't have to make alot of noise to go fast. Now I don't mind a sweet sounding high revving engine, but the cow giving birth sound of those factory Corvettes is just plain disgusting. It was a great weekend for the boys from Audi Sport, as they shattered the track record to take pole, and went 1st and 2nd overall in the race. Hopefully North America is listening, if they haven't gone deaf from their old time technology in autos and bikes.

Dude... stellar shot of the LMP1 in Turn 3 and Turn 8! I assume you were track side this weekend? Love the headlight flare on #2.

Lovely shot that first one, great angle and background.
Think it might be some time before a diseasel starts winning MotoGP though. :D

Yes I did say that because just like Harley's they make a disgusting racket.
It's 2008 and they can both get some new technology, that doesn't sound like crap.

dude..
diesels are an amazing proposition for the road and day to day driving - 2 years ago I swore I'd not buy one and now I've bought a diesel car and love it.
but for race cars, petrol (or you call it Gasoline) cannot be beaten regardless of performance etc - it's all about the sound and 8000rpm!

We had a diesel Volkswagon back in the early 80's, and it always got 50mpg or better no matter how it was driven. So diesel is nothing new to me.
But there is a sweet sound and a sick sound, and a screaming high revving 10,000 plus RPM engine sounds sweet. A lumbering pushrod sounds sick. I;ve heard better sound out of a sprint or stock car then those Vettes and Caddys.

Mine is a TDi so has a bit of performance to it too..
I don't have an issue with 7000cc V8s - the more the merrier. As long as they get mixed in with 2000cc turbos, 4000cc V8s, 3800cc flat 6s etc and all the other engine configurations that enter the Le Mans Series type of racing then it's perfect! That's the beauty of it, there are many different sounds and sights and that's what I love - the diversity in categories. F1 is good but they all look and sound the same, know what I mean?
Anyway - your shots rock though! 1st one is amazing.

I have to agree... the Ferrari drone was just ear deafening when I was trackside just out of Turn 3 and the Panoz and Vette's just have that constant drone/rumble. It sounds great in the pits but man after 2 full hours of it you really grow tired yet the Audi's never get old with their whisper quiet engines.
If the vette's bug you, hope you didn't watch the Speed World Challenge GT's with the Caddy's... those are even worse!

I shot it and they got on my nerves too.
People worry so much about pollution these days, but noise pollution isn't healthy and there is no excuse for it.

I love the shots, but I have to question your taste, your heritage, your manliness and the manner in which you were raised for daring to impugn the heavenly music that is the Corvette powerplant.

You can't rag on the vette. They made a car that competes with the Ferrari's and aston martins at a price affordable to the public. Thats what good engineering is about.

Disgusting racket = Tafel's cars when they have the pit limiter on
I don't mind the Vettes personally, I just thank god that god awful rotary mazda isn't in the P2 class anymore. THAT thing was just awful, in sound and speed.
Shooting the Audis were a pain in the ass. You can hear every other car from a mile away and get ready to shoot it; not with the Audi

Only reason they win is through outspending the privateer teams. They struggled against those sweet sounding Pro-Drive 550's and they struggled against the Aston Martins.
Of course they win every week, they are basically the only ones in the class.
It's like Goodyear advertising that they are the winning tire supplier in a NASCAR race. They are the only tire supplier.........LOL

Nice shots but to each there own on the sound. Those high revving engines sound like an annoying swarm of bees after awhile. I prefer the "old technology" pushrod V8 making 8,000HP sound.
Again, great shots.

Taken Saturday morning. It was cloudy on Sunday for the most part, with only a few breaks in the clouds in the AM

I drive an LS1 powered vehicle, and I take personal offense to that criticism of the c6r exhaust note.
I don't care who wins the race, an LsX is still going to be the best sounding, most reliable engine running that damn race, hands down. Anyone who wants to doubt this can ask around anyone who DD's a vette. Many people I know have 100k+ miles and no mechanical issues at all.

Let's try to keep this civil. I've seen way too many debates on this very topic on every other car forums out there. Don't need a rehash of this on here, some of us didn't come to POTN for a debate on exhaust notes.

I stated a point that you do not have to make alot of noise to go fast. And as I said earlier, noise pollution is an issue these days and can and will get tracks shut down.

EXACTLY!!!!
1. Bosscat, GREAT images here!!!
2. I've NEVER met a racecar that sounded bad in any way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3. I sense your opinion goes a little beyond just the racecars from
America.
4. Noise Pollution!?!? Really!?!?! I'm not even sure you're allowed to use those two words together until the age of 65.
