So by now, everyone knows that the 50D was released. Canon is releasing the 50D at $1399 for body only, which matches the $1399 they released the 40D at, and the $1399 they released the 30D as well. Canon released the 1DMKIII at $4500 when the 1DMKIIN was released at $3999. So the pattern seems to be that Canon is releasing upgraded models at the previous model entry price or higher. What that tells me is that I expect to see the 5D MKII upgrade released at a minimum of $3300 and potentially higher (if we use what happened to the 1D MKIII).

So for all of those wanting the 5D MKII to be released at $2000, then I think you should be prepared to be dissappointed.

I suspect a minimum of US$2800, or If it has 21MP, and a "lesser" body than the D700, it will probably be priced higher than the D700.

I could go on guessing, but its getting late :)

Yeah I think your right. Sony are about to launch there big fella at a very good price (I know it already), which will keep Canon honest although Im sure they will pitch it a bit higher than Sony as they know most wont jump over.

I'm really saving up to buy it for half a year now and waiting for it since then, but if it comes at that price (3300 body only), I'll just rather go after the "old" 5d or used 1dsmkII or something...

predicting 3K tops.

if 2K, i'd run out and buy it asap
if 2.5k+ i'd "wait and see"
if 3K+ i'd have to think about it a bit more

My guess is $2899. The list price on the Canon website is $2499 for the 5D. They won't price the new 5D below that. But, unless it is much better than the D700, they won't price it over $3299. $2899 would be just below the D700 but permit lots of upgrades to the current 5D.
