I thought there would be more shots from Oulton Park but it seems everyone was at Cadwell this weekend.
Well here's a couple from my very first motorsport outing with the camera. I was pretty happy with how it went, I honestly expected to come home with no more than a dozen sharp shots at the very most.
Both were shot with the 30D and 70-200 f4.
Cheers for looking,
Cadwell

Nice shots.
I suspect many of us are still trying to get over the disappointment of what a poor race meeting it was. No wonder the HSCC didn't publish an entry list before hand... Many important cars which turn out to "normal" HSCC meetings were conspicuous by their absence, I guess the haul up to Oulton was too far for many of them. If I'd known in advance the trip would have been too long for me too!

Nice shots,
There seemed to be alot of camera's there snapping away,
not too impressed with the quality of the racing for the ticket price asked.

Cheers for the kind replies.
Yeah, I have to agree that the meet wasn't particularly great. Luckily I was in Warrington this weekend so only had a 20 mile drive. Don't think I would have been too impressed if i'd driven there all the way from Hampshire ;-)
Although being the first time i've taken my camera to a race it was great practice and I learnt a lot...... Like I need a longer lens for starters.

Yep, as pan shots go #2 is pretty much spot-on. You've got the car in focus which is more than some people can manage :)
As for the quality of the event itself, i suspect i'll be commenting more when i post my shots a bit later. Fans of Dr Palmer may want to look elsewhere ;)

and Oulton Park is one of the better circuits for being able to get close to the action... You should try Silverstone or Donington - a Canon mount Hubble is required there.

Cadwell were you down at hill top near the end of the day ?? with a big lens, or where you walking around with a sigma ??
was at britten's, not been down that part of the trackbefore but you can get close, i'll have to spend some more time walking around it, you allways see good shots at lodge corner but that's media only area is it not ??

It depends which day. On Sunday I started at Britten's and ended the day at Knickerbrook. I was using a Mark III/Canon 600L and Mark II/Sigma 120-300EX. On Monday the old war wound was playing up and I lurked around the exit to Lodge with a Mark III/Sigma 500EX and Mark II/Sigma 120-300EX.
You can shoot the exit of Lodge from public areas.

Thanks again guys. I think I have the bug now. I was going to head over to Cadwell Park this weekend but unfortunately have now been told i'm working instead. Maybe next time.

Ha. If it was you shooting with two other blokes down at Knickerbrook then I remember a distinct feeling of insignificance when you all stood next to me with the monsters.

Were you with a couple of friends by any chance?
There was a group that we scared off at Knickerbrook when we landed there. To be honest i was a bit paranoid about it after camping overnight and finding Dr Palmer's temporary showers not working... ;)

Ha..... So that's what it was.
Nah, wasn't me. I was down there until the end.

Probably was... I'm easy to spot, I have a snow-camo lens coat on the 600mm.

I think you did an exceptional job capturing the speed while getting the cars composed and in focus. Very nice work.
