My wife and visited a small town some 7/8 miles from where we live and came across this tribute to Jack Judge, who wrote 'It's A Long Way To Tipperary' the famous WW1 song.

The plaque claims that Jack (who lived in Birmingham, a good 100 miles away) was appearing as a Music Hall act in the town and wrote the song late one night after several drinks as a result of a £5.00 bet, a lot of money in those days.

Jack is shown seated accompanied by a first world war soldier playing the melody on his mouth organ (Harp to you younger people) how do I know he's playing the melody? because that's all that the music displays, a single line on a full stave, the notation is technically correct and readable by any musician, amazing considering that the 'paper' is really a sheet of thick bronze metal.

I understand that you will be familiar with this song even in the USA,and thought that this lovely statue would interest many of you out there.

Thanks for posting and Yes, Im very familiar with the song. My father had a diorama that depicted Snoopy on his dog house wearing his WWI fighter pilot gear and around him flew Woodstock dressed as the Red Barron. When the key was turned, the music box inside would play the song. Thanks for reminding me!
