HI

i am really keen on photography - and i tend to just take photos!

I am really after something to actually head for - projects or something similar

apart from going to college is there something online - or book based that could give me a target to aim for

anything really - but i am quite keen on abstract photography

thanks in advance

roger

For abstract photography it's great to plan on some pictures concentrating on the basics: lines, patterns, texture, color, balance....

PhotoSIG has a nice section on Assignments that can give you some ideas: http://www.photosig.com/go/photos/browsecategories?typeId=12

UseFilm also has some nice Projects: http://www.usefilm.com/recent/ and look on the left for a "Projects" drop-down.

DPChallenge (http://www.dpchallenge.com/) Posts challenges based on certain subjects or themes. Usually there are several challenges going on at the same time and the deadlines run anywhere from 24hrs to a few weeks. The submitted photos are voted on at the end of the challenge and ribbons are given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places (sorry, no money). Participating in the challenges (or at least using them for inspiration) may be a good way to kick-start your creativity. It's a great site.
