Hi,
Is it technically possible to have multi-language version of EE (user can select language or auto-select using browser's language settings)?
Or downloadable language files administrator can select from? Of course changing of language should be possible if needed later.
At least I would like to have Finnish version of EE. I might be also interested to help in translation work.
Pekka, you could promise free license to everyone who has done new translation for EE. That might give you lot of translations in short time and with little effort from you.
Please comment!

Mikko

I support daddy0's request. I am working on a heavily modified EE section within a site I am developing and it will need to have multi-language support, English and Spanish.
Since I will have to do the Spanish translation in any event, I will gladly share it with the EE community. However, as daddy0 suggests, it would be more useful if someone else (I wish I could) could develop the multi-language php file with the appropriate language phrase variables.
In other words, it would be useful if in future releases all text within the HTML coding, as well as anything within the php variables could have multiple languages in a single php file, called within each php document as in include function.
I will post the Spanish translation and a link to my site very shortly.
Thank you for a wonderful program:-)

I'll do a multilanguage template system for 1.3. But first only for public user-interfaces, not the database so that 1.3 release is not delayed because of it. I think that is a good "while waiting for full solution" solution. And Mikko, ok you'll get a free licence for pushing me, even if I do the translation :p
Rodrigo, can I contact you for spanish translation?
PS. The editor help system is already multilanguage in 1.3RC. There is a setting 'ee_language' in 'ee_settings' waiting for multilanguage dropdown selection...

Hi Pekka,
I'll be glad to help you out with translation into norwegian. Your great piece of software can definitively be even better with a multi-language support.

Thank you very many ;)
It's your decision but I offer my helping hand if you need it. I think I am pretty good translating programs because I professionally do programs in Finnish (and in English) for non-computer oriented people. It is sometimes really hard to figure out the right words that have the same meaning than the original version has.

Latest info: multilingual EE is almost finished and languages will be installed as language packs - you install only the languages you need.
Some items from the database are multilingual, and so are all public interfaces. You select the languages from dropdown menus. The database items translated for photos photo header, description, retouch, darkroom, meta keywords. Light names, categories and settings (headers, copyright texts, indexlink, header, footer, off message etc). are also translated directly in editors. Also, exhibition header and description are multilingual. Dates are converted using locale settings of server (how it works may vary between server configurations).
Customisable flash and support menus are translated in each language pack folder's dropdown.php.
In editors the multilingual fields are marked clearly. They change content between languages when you select a language from dropdown menu. If you edit photo data in finnish, all "common" data is saved normally and multilingual data is saved only in finnish. This way you can do any number of languages with one user-interface.
Example: Photo Editor (as it is now on my machine - beta)
Here's english selection:
http://photography-on-the.net/gallery/eng_photodata.gif
Here's it in finnish:
http://photography-on-the.net/gallery/fin_photodata.gif
So, those who need multilingual EE can install the languages they need, but this means also that you really should have the multilingual data in all those languages so that the site content would be meaningful for visitors.
You can set a default language for public interface and editors.
In 1.3 I'll leave the editor interfaces in english only (simply too time-consuming to do the multiligual now), but that will come, too. Also, multilanguage online help files wil have to wait (they are all english now) as it's easy to install them later.
All the rest for the html pages are translated by php files, which are very easy to edit.

You may view my heavily modified EE version at
http://www.ArteStella.com/arte
This site was modified to meet the needs of a painter. I am now working on the Spanish version, but I will wait for Pekka's multi-language pack first. As promised, I will provide you with the Spanish files once I ge the english ones completed.

Hi TorB,
I would notice you that we have open a special Topic dedicated to the translation files for the Exhibit Engine V. 1.5b5 now we have five languages:
1) English (default)
2) Finnish (by Pekka)
3) Italian (by boolbo)
4) German (by TomKa)
5) Spanish (bu Manutremo)
Now we are interestd in the norwegian one, and I see one of your old posts where you wrote to Pekka that you are able to fill the norvegian translation for the EE.
So, if you are still interested in helping the EE community you can find the original english file to translate, from this link:
http://www.download.boolbo.com/pafiledb.php?action=download&id=4
Then you could post your link for norvegian tranlation downloading to our special Topic you can find here:
http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=19873
Let me know something, see you soon...and thanks a lot! Bye...

I don’t know if there is any interest in a Swedish language file yet, anyway I got one. Should I send the ee_lang_swe.zip somewhere?
