when I was in glendalough on thursday I saw a lot of activity going on by the side of the upper lake
usually it's very quite this time of year.
the police (garda) were in the act of searching for a man's body
the man's car had been found by the side of the lake .
he was seperated from his wife and family and had gone missing (for four days at that stage )
he is aged 54. I say 'is' as his body has not been found yet
I took a few shots of the men who were ready to dive.
I was not in the way at all.
my shots are not real good but just showing what went on
thanks
edit
meant to say the divers went down 30metres

ha ha ha
you're dead right Bandit
and that's exactly what they said
'how silly we must look sitting here on a bench '
(but were willing to have a shot taken) http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
the other fellow who was giving them instructions
said ' well ,with the weather we are having you'll look ok' http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Interesting series of pictures of something which you wouldn't see a lot (which would be a good thing).
Number 5 looks like something from creature from black lagoon. I really like number 7. The scenery in the background, the light on the car and dinghy..just perfect.

Number 7 is a great shot, particularly if you had no idea of what was going on. In number 6, the lake seems to fall away on both sides. What lens did you use? I assume it was very wide angle.
Good work, Marie.

Interesting real action pictures.
The jeep one is definately the best one. Nice quality.
A couple may just need a slight bit of saturation to liven them up. :)
Keep listening to the news, and find out if they find the man. :(

Wonderful photos of what appears to be a tragic event. I, too, was struck by #7. The foreground activity of dragging for a body is set against some luscious scenery in the background. I like the whimsical B&W divers in contrast to their grim task.
Great work, Marie.

I love that those two myself
the beautiful backdrop there is usually very hard to capture properly.
the mountains are all lopsided
but it's not until you try to get a picture
that you really notice how difficult it is to make it look ok (in a picture)
however ,when you are right there and it's in front of you
there is no problem with the sceneryhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif

you are right
I used the wc-dc 58 canon wide angle with my G2 for some of the shots
where you can see the wider (slightly distorted) view
the shots of the truck on the lake were taken with the pro1.

I love that one too but wanted to show all what was going on
the saturation was a problem as I tried to being the colour down a little
their wet suits really were all colours with a lot of markings here and there
and I always forget to have the white balance properly adjusted and ready
I go home. plug in the camera to recharge it
and grab it again when going out
forgetting I meant to fix a few adjustments which were neededhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif
so I brought the colour down a little.
I was talking to the police this morning
there has been no body found yet.
he could have done a bunk and took off http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif
who knows
has been known .
( stranded car is sometimes a decoy)
but I don't really think so, in this case
not very nice for all the people concerned
and other lives put in danger
there is a lot of broken wood at the bottom of the lake which falls from the mountains and the divers could get caught in the branches. also it is black dark down there . they have to hold onto the extended rope all the time
and stick together.
they look for the body by feeling around in the darkness 30 metres down
I asked about torches but I was told ..no ..they need their hands
I thought I saw a torch in the shot of the man in the water

but thought it best for a second as the colours in their suits seemed to clash with everything else going on in some of the pictures
*I am leaving two urls in a post further down for you to see more of the scenery around there

Nice job. I once took shots of a search like this when I was a newspaperman ... probably the most difficult thing I've ever shot. Several close family members, who had watched their two relatives drown in the lake, were distraught and standing at the shore. I tried to be as senstive as possible, but one of the women lashed out and told me I was being "rude." I must admit, I couldn't get the nerve to take photos of them, but now wish that I would have. Now that a few years have passed since then, I often wonder if they still feel that I was insensitive.
By the way, that's one beautiful lake.

that was a pity.
your job was a difficult one
but I can understand their grief too
it's important to have shots sometimes.
I think they would still feel the same today as it seems it was a fairly hopeless situation, from what you say.
and nobody wants to see pictures of the watery grave where their loved one's died.
this situation was different as there was no one there belonging to anybody who mattered in the drowning
(if the man has drowned)
:(
the lake and the place is lovely.
thanks a lot

I was using my g2 with a WC-DC58 wide converter for the shots with the wider view
like the squad car by the lake shot ( 1/60 f4)
and I was using the Pro1 camera for the shots where the ranger and trailer are coming out of the water ( also for a few of the other shots)
( 1/60 f3 for the first shot in the lake and 1/30 f3 for the shot coming onto the sand)

I was amazed to see the 'jeep' backing into the water like that
the trailer behind sinking lower and lower into the lake
until the rubber dinghy got on board and then all moved forward and out again
