I just got a 20D the other day and it came with a 35-80mm lens. I picked up a Hoya, and a Quantaray UV filter and a 50mm EF 1.8 II. I am used to a G5 and S30 which had the LCD which composed the pictures. I am going to be doing alot of photos of people and I was wondering what is the best settings to use?

hu? you mean like which mode to shoot in? it depends where your people are, if they are moving and a lot of other things :-)

if you're learning (at least this is what I did) try to shoot in program mode and just make a note of what the camera decides to use. then when you can start to predict what it will use and you are close... try to shoot in manual. That's how I leaned :-)

I suggest you do a photography class to pick up the basics you need to control your camera. I did one and it was a great start.

The answer to your question is: it depends what effect you're trying to achieve. You need t to know about things like shutter speeds, aperatures, ISO, bokeh (background blur), fill flash, etc, and how these things work together to effect your picture.

i also read a lot in the "learn" section on dpreview.com. I've never taken any photography classes but i probably should :-)
