The annual sojourn to the "great white north." Though it was hot.

We'll try and make it cooler and whiter for next year.

Great stuff as usual

#6 & #8 for me John - good stuff.

I wish you could have had blue skies for #3.

Great shots as always JT. I really like the perspective in #5 and the way the motion is conveyed. #6 & #8 are outstanding.

May I ask on #2 did you shot that standing on the wall? I noticed the exif show focal length 12m. Did you use a 10-22 for that?

Thanks, Jamie.

I used a 12mm-24mm ... not sure if I was standing on the wall or not. But if you look real hard, the give-away is right in front of the car. ;)

Think wireless.

I see the shadow now. Cool. Care to share more about the process. I would not want to assume too much on my on. But from the exif @ f/12 (for a larger focal plane), monopod, 12mm (wide as you could get), remote focus and shot?

Yes... the camera was mounted to a mono-pod with a ball head. The 12MM gave me an extra-wide view... and room for error/cropping. I extended the mono-pod to its full length, hoisted it up overhead and trigger the camera with a wireless remote.

This was phase one of an experiment in an attempt to overcome new "over-the-wall" rules issued by IMSA.... I talk about it on my blog.

Here's another "look" trigger by remote:

new "over-the-wall" rules

I'm guessing nobody will be allowed over the wall, except for pit crews and IMSA personnel??

Not exactly.

Until further review, all photographers that previously had over-the-wall access can no longer go over the wall under RACE conditions. This does not apply to practice. Television will continue as before.

Those photographers credentialed for access WILL be allowed to go out to the pit lane island at those tracks that have appropriate access. They may do so under escort of an IMSA official.

Pit lane rules remain in effect allowing all photographers access to pit lane provided they are wearing a fire suit that meets FIA standards... during the race.

Truth be known, there are about 12 photographers that QUALIFY for over-the-wall access. Somehow, that number grew to 40 plus. It is my hope that during the off-season, IMSA reviews its credential policy and take a firmer stand on the number of credentials it allows sanctioned tracks to issue. It's seriously out of whack.

I know at the Honda Grand Prix of St. Pete, Very few people got "Hot" Tickets, while others had to stay on the inside walls.

I was one of the lucky to get the "Hot" access, which allowed me close to drivers, and cars during practice. During Race, you had to have IMLS Creds. You were allowed on track wall but not in pits.

(back to the shots)

I love them! I really like the "over the wall ones" I dont think I have seen anyone shoot like that, very nice:D

I have to agree that too many people know somebody that gets them in trackside, and then the problems start. This isn't racing at Chicken Licks Raceway, it's a world class series, and should be treated as such by all involved.

I think people have to pay their dues at grass roots tracks, before they work their way into the higher series of racing.

But to not allow any shots on pit lane during a race is just hurting the series. It's part of the appeal of racing in the ALMS.

Well, I don't know how you "earn" the right... but I guess if you've got your chops, you're at least there with a genuine assignment. That's what is at issue. Mosport was handingo out "trackside" credentials that no one could really explain. The holders of these credentials knew nothing of attending mandatory photo meetings or wearing the required vest. In fact, several even argued the point with officials. This is troubling to me in-as-much if one of these folks gets themselves into a jam, it's a "photographer." Period. It's not a photographer with an asterisk... or a freind of so and so... it's a photographer. Hence, all photographers will be affected by the outcome and RE-action to whatever goes wrong.

SO,yes... I agree... the tracks need to get a backbone when this level of event comes to town and enforce IMSA regulations... not their own.

Regarding over-the-wall, there is no access in IRL and no access in NASCAR. So it's not out of the ordinary. Also, you can get excellent stuff from the island.

I understand the Mosport issue, as I was at the meetings each and everyday. I heard what was said Sunday morning. This is a risk to every photographer on assignment.

I shot on Thursday, and made a point to go to a marshall's station and show my credential and let them know I was in their area. Why?? In case something went wrong, they would know I was there and account for me. Each marshall thanked me, and I thanked them for their efforts that day.

I'm not arguing John, I just wanna help find solutions for all involved, as I enjoy this medium of expression too much to not fight for it.
