I'm headed down to Reno,NV tomorrow and I'm wondering if it would be worth it to bring my XTI with me or just leave it at home and use a p&s that we have. The only equipment I would have is the XTI body and kit lens, so not alot to carry around. Also, if I do bring it, the camera will be in my carry on bag and with me most of the time.

what do you think? worth the risk or not?

Doesn't do much good to have a camera if you never take it with you.;)

I've traveled all over the world and I never leave my camera at home. I make sure that it is insured and take reasonable precautions. As Dan said, why have a camera and leave it at home? Shoot away!

Bring it! You don't have that much to carry.

Get a "Personal Items policy" from State Farm, if you have time and feel the need. I did and I don't hesitate to bring my gear anywhere. It took 20 minutes at my local agency. You're covered the minute you sign the dotted line. It covers loss, theft and damage done by you. Over 5,000 of gear was only about $70/year.

Wow! That's not that bad considering the equipement is worth as much as a used car....I think there'll be some good photo opportunities, so I might just have to bring it with me. :)

thanks

As Dan said, there's no point having a camera and leaving it at home. Why would it be a risk to take it with you? I have been all over Europe with my cameras and always wander round with 1 on each shoulder and I have never had a problem.

Well I was thinking if I were to leave it in the hotel room for those times I'll be out and don't want to risk me dropping it or something due to..umm...some beverages. I just don't totally trust the maids, but I guess I have had my laptop in the room all day a few times and it was fine, so the camera will have to be hidden. I'm just protective of it is all.
