Looks to me as if it could be rendered a bit brighter and with more contrast.

i'm no expert, this is my version of events
it is an incense stick burning with off camera flash under the smoke, iso 100, shutter 1 second, f8 and various wavey motions :)
a nifty fifty with back focus button on a tripod helped, focus on the tip of the incense and then raise the camera a foot or so so your focus is on the same plane.
The pp was crop , rotate to mirror, brightness and contrast and add a 40 % gradient on overlay in elements.

Very creative! I wonder how a CIGAR would look? The edit looks amazing.....
