Impressive, but your NOT a jedi, yet! :)
Leaves my own night photography looking rather.... high contrast.

I like the second one best as well, however I like the bright building down in the corner. It gives the picture some context and a certain tone that disappears when you remove that building (I cropped it just to see). Both are fine shots that remind me I've got a long way to go and a ton to learn.

I'm curious...what was your shutter speed, especially for the second shot? The stars, even a couple of 3rd mag's, are so strong, yet the rest isn't really overexposed.

The 2nd shot is 54 seconds at f4 ISO800... as for not been overexposed I nearly always use f4 or around that area, when I use the wider apertures I dont get very many keepers... its trial and error really but if it really dark I have to drop use a wider aperture... I try not to ever use a shutter speed more than 70-80 seconds as that when I start to get too much 'Star motion' for my tastes
and I am fortunate in that in just a few minutes drive I can be well out of urban street lighting, and last night the stars were very bright as they are again tonight
Thanks for the comments

I like the church scene best and have to agree with the others that the bright spot bottom right detracts a bit,but is a good photo , would look even better in print.

When I saw the second picture I immediately noticed the short star trails; if you can keep the exposure under about 30 seconds for the stars they will probably appear just about as bright without being little bar shaped things. Otherwise the photo is very good.
Alternatively you could mount the camera on a polar aligned clock-driven telescope and then the only blurring would be the dark background which would probably not be noticeable.

That would then blur the church, perhaps !
