I think this bird may become my sunner project

They are so coy it is unreal!

Comments/suggestions on how to improve the shots welcome!

Nice shot Richard. That's a beautiful bird.

Good luck with the project - I'm looking forward to more pics!

As for comments, I think a little more sharpening could be done, and some saturation to bring out the red in the beak and cheek-feathers. Maybe 1/3 more exposure? But the composition and background are wonderful.

Thanks everyone for your comments

Next time I hope to visit when there is plenty of light. Even on the 20D I hate ISO 800 and above!

Scott, thanks for your comments. I plan on visiting that spot every couple of weeks weather permitting as they really start to show some colour in early spring. I've re-processed the raw, this is what I came up with

Better?

Nice shot Richard. :)

I spent a week on the Norfolk Broads last year and every time I saw one, I would grab my 10D and the *******ers would dive before I could get a shot. >:(

I have about 60 shots of a big splash in the middle of some water for my efforts. :D

They are beautiful birds though, so i can't be too mad at them.

Cheers

Ian

I think this looks much better! She pops a little more, and the little boost of color helps a lot. Much better, I'd say!

I can hardly wait for more.

PS: You're another point closer to the full "Ninja Birder" title...

nice capture, they are also worth catching them with their head at a slight angle into the sun - then their eyes' glow a brillent red colour. You'll need to be at this same low angle to capture the effect.

You lucky lucky man! What a great shot - I'm jealous. Now I want to see the courtship displays!
