Went over to Ile Bizard yesterday morning to play hide and seek with the Great Greys (and to chase Mario Andretti, A.K.A. Sheldon, around) and even thought there were a lot of owls to be seen, most of them were too far back in the woods to get really good images of. This one owl, I called her Sally, decided to fly back and forth accross the road several times to try and get a better view of the ugly truck that was parked in her territory. I was using the 400 f/5.6 and ol Sally was too close for most of the flight shots and was hard to track. I finally nailed a couple of shots, going away of course. :) :)

Someone needs to tell Sally that owls are nocturnal, she should be sleeping.

Actually, she was. But then these two bozos came over in this ugly looking contraption and woke her out of deep slumber. She couldn't figure out what they were doing in the middle of nowhere putting these long white clubs to their eyes and pointing them her way.

Ian, again, awesome shots. You guys are really having a great time out there, aren't you? Enjoy it while it lasts because you never know when they'll be back again this close to home.

Thanks for the kudos folks. This weekend was a blast photographing the owls. This afternoon produced probably the best ops to date. Candace saw an owl up a little road and we turned around and drove up to find it. The owl was floating around looking at something. Perched in a tree for about 5 minutes then dove into a little clump of shrub. We snuck up on her/him and it had just caught supper, a really big mouse! The owl flew up into a small tree and in 3 gulps swallowed the mouse, whole. Sheldon and I were shooting away like mad. Hopefully one of us will have captured something worth posting. There were a lot of people driving around looking for the Great Greys. Funniest part was when we were driving along the river and I thought that I saw a Robin. Stopped the Az, got out and nailed a dozen frames of a bunch of Robins hopping round. January 30th and the Robins are back! Sweet!:):):):):)

It certainly would have been nice, but I'm actually having quite a blast with you guys posting this stuff. It's makes me jealous, but at the same time pretty damn ecstatic that you caught these guys.

Super shots! Owls are great.

...easily expose-able too, they're about 18% grey :-P
