I have a good friend and co-worker who is a Noink shooter. She does some really good work at a local raptor center as well as around work. She's been shooting with a D70 for quite a while and I've been trying to get her to convert over to Camp Canon but she won't budge.

I was getting off work the other night when she came up to me and told me about what happened last weekend. Before I continue, please understand that I whole hartedly feel for her on this matter.

She recently upgraded to the D300 which from what I've seen is a great body.

She tells me that while she was trying to photograph some Cardinals, her dogs came up to her, distracted her and eventually her camera bounced down the deck and right into a bucket of water!

Fortunately for her, it's only going to cost her about $250 when it's all said and done. I think she was able to salvage the camera but the circuit board is fried!

Anyway, I just wanted to share this little story with you all over here in the Canon Camp!;)

and the point is what, exactly?

Are you saying you think Nikons are cheaper to fix?

I dont think thats the point, we all know Nikons are just as good as Canons when in the right hands.

I think the point is, having cardinals and a bucket of water near dogs and a deck are just not wise.

Certainly a lesson learned on this end, I dont know about everyone else.

The raptor center in Charlotte is really nice for viewing, but the fences around all of the birds gave me a heck of a time with the camera. Does you friend get special access?

I also wish I had brought something other than my 24-105 when I went, but its a long trip for me at the moment and I couldn't exactly go back for another lens.

Not saying they're cheaper to fix. I was just telling a little story about a fellow photog, that's all. I guess that's my point....exactly

Proves that Nikon's are harder to hold on to.
