Beginner with a 300D - thoughts?

Cannot seem to get good pics in low light so spend a while with photoshop - how else could I improve this pic?

hey, quite nice pic. and I liked the details of duck. I think there is reflection of light in top part of image which is little distracting...not sure if it could have been avoided in given situation
