The old war wound was playing up on Monday, probably due to wandering around with large lenses on Sunday and then sleeping on the slopes of a mountain that night, so I decided I'd lurk all day at Lodge. I make no apologies for not wandering the circuit looking for angles, things hurt.

Anyway.

#1 Some single seater opposite lock malarkey

#2 I didn't make it to the rally stage, no need really... it came to me

http://www.photozo.com/album/data/8980/RPUK2388x1000.jpg

#3 Lotus Europa more or less on the track

http://www.photozo.com/album/data/8980/RPUK2724x1000.jpg

#4 Porsche 911 in typical mode; rear end trying to overtake the front. The tracks <- that way mate!

#5 Single seaters can be rally cars too!

and as the light starts to fade...

#6 a lesson on how it should be done.

#7 I really like this old Chevron F5000. Such a pretty car.

#8 and finally a photo with no particular merit other than it will satisfy Mr. Harrison's Healey cravings

Thanks for looking. A few hundred more here should you feel inclined http://www.racepicsuk.com/c1569322.html.

All were taken with the EOS 1D Mark III and Sigma 500mm f/4.5EX HSM. I hadn't used that lens in a while and I'd forgotten just how good it is.

Oh dear. Another potential member of the "El-cheapo" 500 club :D

More loveliness there Glenn. I mean the pictures, not you of course :p

There's only one thing I enjoy photographing more than the ole Lowepro, and that's a Big Healey. Thanks for posting #8, it is appreciated :D.

#5 and #6 are belters.

Simon 'Bag Snapper' Harrison

PS hope the war wound has calmed down some.

I nearly missed out seeing these, and would have disapointed if I had.
Sorry the old war wound slowed you up,but the pics are usual very high quality.
This new Sigi 500 is getting some seriously good press !
7 is my favourite ,as my passion is big single seaters ,the more powerful the better,so the big Chevron gets my vote, love the colour too.
The "baby" chevron in 6 being persued by some other big brutes is great too.

Cheers Glenn,
Pons

"new"? I've had the Sigma 500mm f/4.5 EX since March 2005 so it isn't really new to me :D

I've tended to favour the Canon 600L over the last few months due to its slightly longer reach but my photos from last year's Gold Cup where I'd used both lenses at the corner convinced me that the 500mm was the better choice for "Lodge". The 600mm was simply too tight.

Optically there's really nothing to choose between the Canon 600L and the Sigma 500EX and the Sigma is also blessed with extremely quick autofocus. True, the Sigma lacks image stabilisation but since I never use that for motorsport it isn't an issue. On the plus side, the relatively small and compact Sigma is a positive joy to use after the sheer bulk of the 600/4. ;)
