I agree it's a great lens... that's why it's an L series. I assume when you say 'save some money' you mean vs. buying the 2.8? I would agree if you are going to be shooting outdoor with tons of light you'd be hard pressed to spend the extra on the 2.8, but if you ever decided one day to shoot your son/daughter's hockey or basketball game, or concert recital, you'd wish you spent the extra and got the 2.8.... just IMO. My co-worker just bought the F4 and is already talking about getting rid of it.

Oh and by the way, that first shot is very impressive for a non-macro... great job!

Thanks for reaction. Shot the flower inside handheld at f4 (no flash)
The other shot was under very cloudy circumstances in the wood.
It was my first time with this lens. After some lost photos I managed to understand the lens and even in low daylight it went very well. Keep the shutterspeed/iso/aperature in mind and it works according to me very well.
For low light 2.8 can work, but it cost almost two times as much and you don't have IS.
I prefer tho take the F4, put on a flash and you must be able to take great photos with the f4 in low light.

But will the flash help if the subject is far away?
