I've been thinking about it. Depends on what happens.

Well it seems to be heading straight at Jamaica, and I was there just last week. But if any sign of it passes by south FL, I'll take a few shots.

I'm hoping it doesn't hit Louisiana...they've been through enough already....

it seems we'll have to watch out for the possible hurricane hanna which is heading straight for florida ;)

Mike,
I'm leaving for N.O. either Sat. or Sun. to pre-position satcom equipment at the convention center. Not sure how long I'll be down there or what exactly I'll see, but I'm bringing my gear. If something bad happens I'll try and capture it. I'm hoping to make a dry-run photo wise though.

I was in NO after Katrina for about 6 mos. and unfortunately was not into photography at that point. I coulda got some good stuff. :(

Lonnie, good luck with your trip. Hopefully you won't have to deal with evacuation traffic coming out of NO. People tell me 13 or 14 hours NO to BR was the norm for Katrina. I didn't take a lot of pictures after Katrina, just damage to our studio. Probably won't for this one if it comes. This looks like to whom it may concern at this point, my hope is it dies in the gulf and it only affects the fish.

Lonnie you had better get on the road to N.O. either early in the AM tomorrow or tonight, we are expecting Contraflow sometime Saturday afternoon which means there will be no roads going into New Orleans, traffic will be redirected to outbound only.

Good luck my friend, I'm staying put until Sunday to determine what I'm going to do and where I'll be headed. Everything is ready, just waiting to decide which direction to go. If it looks like it's going far enough West than I'll stick it out and see if I can get some decent images from it but I"m not putting myself in harm's way for it.

I'm reporting to my guard unit tonight or tomorrow, and I suspect that the fact that I haven't gone to NO yet means that I won't go before the hurricane. We sent comm gear and personnel to Jackson Barracks before Katrina - they ended up getting ~12 feet of water and had to be rescued themselves.

I don't guess I have to tell you not to wait for the contraflow to leave if you think you're leaving. At least there are fewer people to evacuate this time. Be safe!

Just a quick follow-up, I'm a little surprised no one else has posted in this thread since the hurricane.

Baton Rouge and the surrounding area, which I'm from, actually took it really hard. Luckily my house in Denham Springs was spared and my wife and kids were only without power for a couple of days.

My mom was without power for about 10 days, and I still know of some people that have yet to get power restored. The wife of one of my good friends had her best friend's sister get crushed by a falling tree while she was in her home. My mom's house was fine, but on another house she owns got ripped to shreds. I know several people that flooded because of the rains Gustav brought.

I've been on duty for 15 days now and am ready to come home. There's a pretty good chance I'll be in Lake Charles soon because of Ike. Hurricanes suck :( but I feel fortunate noone close to me is hurt and that my home made it ok.

How'd you make out Mike? Turns out the action came to you....
