From what I have read somewhere (don't remember where), the optimal aperture settings for the Tamron 17-35 in terms of corner sharpness are like f8, f11 and f16 on focal lenghts of 17, 28 and 35, respectively. If daylight landscape is your primary interest, I guess this Tamron might fit the bill. Hope this helps.

I can recommend the Sigma 15-30mm f/3.5-4.5 EX (http://www.deltainternational.com/store/Item_SGL15%2D30C.htm) lens - it's wider than the Tamron and seems to be superior optically according to the reviews. I had this lens for a while - it's big (but not heavy), very good optically, and whet's more important - it's wide ! I replaced it with the Tokina 17mm f/3.5 AT-X Pro prime lens, mainly for its small size, I wanted something small to carry around, and I found that I rarely used the Sigma at its widest setting.
