Very nice!! are these shot with the 70-200L? I have the 70-200L non-IS and shot some football HS JV from afternoon light until dark. The lighting forced me to go from ISO 100 all the way to 6400 w/ my Mark III just to keep it around 1/500. I was shooting from the stands so I was a little further away, but I was not happy with the results as they had some motion blur.

Any advise?

Thanks.

You can try using a flash.

Any other suggestions? I have no desire to blind the quarterback when he is trying to throw down field.

Do a search on the messages posted here about flash football and you will find that it is not only very normal but a requirement in many locations that don't play during daylight. You will also find that it will have no impact at all on the QB. The only possible time it will be a factor is if you blast a flash right at a player very near the sidelines and only if he/she is looking directly at the flash (instead of watching the ball or play). Even then, the only time someone will complain is when they are making excuses for missing a play. I have never heard of someone complaining about a flash when they make the big TD catch.

In CS3, Image/Adjustments/Shadow-Highlight/Top slider, ~5-10% -- That will lift the shadow under the helmut a bit.

I also tend to overexpose by 1/3 to 1/2 stop vs. the metering, then move exposure back down in RAW to get the same effect.

Yet another way, a bit more brutal overall, is to move up the 'Fill Light' adjustment in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR).
