Hi Geoff,

I have yet to take an interesting flower pic, so take my comments with a grain of salt...

The lighting in your picture varies from harsh at the top right to a distracting shadow at the bottom left, and so I think it detracts a bit from the image. There is also a brightly reflecting dot (a rock?) at the bottom center, maybe 1/8th of the way up. I'm not certain, but I think shooting on a slightly overcast day would give you a more flattering, diffused light. (On the other hand, shadows can also be used effectively... )

You may also want to think about the positioning of your subject; I'm not sure that centering is ideal for shots like this. I'd also suggest getting in closer and trying different angles.

P.S. I took a peek at your gallery and you've got some very nice images there! Keep up the good work.
