It hurts more than you realize. I have lost 3 and it never gets easier.
They are a part of the family and can never be replaced.
Thinking of all the good time and happy memories will help.

Sorry for your loss - I'm a huge pet lover myself and have been lucky enough to have 6 dogs. The best advice I can give you, is to go out to your local animal shelter and find yourself a kitty in need. I know a new pet never replaces an old one, but there is comfort knowing that even though one life has passed, you've help saved another.

Many many thanks for your kind comments.
She was found lying dead by a lady who lives behind us. She took her to the vet, who used the chip tracking device to locate us. We were left a note and then a lovely letter by the lady who found her.
She is a medium and faith healer....not something I know much about. Anyhow I took her some chocolates to say thank you for treating my baby with such care and respect.
20 minutes later she appeared at our door with an Amethist ball which she had passed through my Buffy's fur as she took her to the vet. She captured her spirit in it I think, but she tells me that if I hold it in my left hand it will help me past my grief.
I'm open enough to have not let it out of my sight since.
I buried my love this afternoon and she now has bright geraniums at her head. She's close enough to my bedroom window to hear me wish her goodnight.

Sincere condolences on the loss of your kitty. In the years to come you'll be glad you have the pictures to look back on. When I sold my house a few years back it bothered me to leave the graves of 3 of my previous cats behind. I'm so glad I took lots of pictures of them.
While everything needs to be kept in perspective in this life, the loss of a pet has a grief factor all it's own. And the grief is a normal, healthy response to the loss of a companion.
This is old, but on the off chance you haven't seen it...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to the Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the time comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Their bright eyes are intent; their eager body quivers. Suddenly they begin to run from the group, flying over the green grass, their legs carry them faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyful reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hand again caresses that beloved head. And you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.
Then, you cross the

You know, when you take a pet into your heart you know it's going to leave you, but you're all the better for having had them around and shared your love with them.
Great pic of Buffy sharing a glass of wine.
