The price of the 10D and now the 20D seems to be the same everywhere, I do not think that you will find any "great" deals. I bought my 20D at Hunt's Photo & Video and thier price was the same as B&H in New York so you could try there, the phone # is 781-662-8822. You will have to pay sales tax though. Where will you be staying when you come here? If you will be here a few days you could order from B&H in New York and have it delivered to you where you are staying, no sales tax that way. I am suggesting that option because by the summer the 20D will most likely be marked down and I know B&H will have the lowest price but a smaller store will most likely not have the same discounted price. If you are staying in the city there are more options, the biggest being Calumet. Good luck on your search and I hope you enjoy your visit.

Another option might be to check with Ritz Camera in Nashua, New Hampshire. They won't stock it, but you might be able to order it and pick it up there. There's no sales tax in NH so you'll save $75 on the camera. Not bad for an hour drive each way. There may also be a Ritz in Salem NH which is a little closer than Nashua. I wouldn't plan on getting anything else at Ritz though - they are very small mall-based stores and not cheap.
Hunt's is just a little north of Boston in Medford and is worth the visit I think. It's a good-sized camera store. There are many other good camera store in Boston and Cambridge, too, but Hunt's is probably the largest in New England (at least as far as I know). Last time I was there they had 12 - yes, a dozen - Canon 400mm f/2.8 L lenses.

Hunts will have the best selection around Boston but Ritz in the Nashua mall will match prices on alot of things so I would at least check with them, thier sales people are not that knowledgeable
so don't expect them to know to much about any products they have.

And be prepared to wait when you go there, because they are often understaffed.
Just to save a little on sales tax wouldn't be enough to make me go to Ritz. Heck, I live in Nashua and I never shop there! I do all my shopping on-line from B&H -- they have the stuff in stock, they know what they're talking about when I ask technical questions, and they process my orders quickly.
Don't special order it from Ritz, expecting it to be at the Nashua store in time for you to pick it up -- I doubt if things would come together properly.

But B&H won't ship to a hotel or such. They want to ship to the credit card's address.
For a savings of $75 it's worth a phone call to Ritz to see if they can get it in.

It's actually in Melrose, not Medford, but what's a few miles of Boston traffic between friends? I used to go there alot (before I discovered the internet, that is!).

Melrose/Medford - same town almost. Except that one is pronounced "Meh-fa" and the other is pronounced correctly, but with the nose in the air. :-)

Have you looked into the duty (price to pay for bringing foreign bought products into your home country) for this purchase? It might make it so it's not worth buying it outside of your country.

Thank you for all your responses, I have a lot to digest. I am actually staying in malden during my visit to the US. I have a friend that lives in Boston so getting her to buy the item for me and paying her back might be the answer. Does B&H have a web site and if so could someone please post me the URL.
Also could anyone tell me where melrose is in relation to Boston, can it be reached via Subway?
Many Thanks for the advice.

Melrose is quite close to Boston, but not close enough for the subway. A subway and then a bus ride perhaps... Malden and Melrose are side-by-side, and Hunts is about in the middle between them - well, the "centers" of them. A taxi would do fairly easily - you're talking only 3 miles give or take.

You can set up a secondary billing address with most credit card companies and they'll ship to that address if you care to keep it on the card. I have my work address set up as the secondary and B&H shipped to it no problem.

Thanks again for all your advice.
I sent a email to Hunts and they confirmed that they will honour their online price (what ever that may be in August) if I walk into the shop and purchase the camera. If all works out then the camera will be loads cheaper than here in the UK. First though, I need to check out whether or not I will get slammed for import duties when I bring it back into the UK. What I want to know is if I get rid of the box before I return to the UK, who is going to know that I have bought the camera in the US? This is just a thought, I am not saying that I am going to do this ;)
Cheers,
Saltstein
