Well, I just wish a new corporate culture towards the customers would arise where the company understands the value of shared infomation - even if they say just "we're not going to get it done this year".

Having encountered other serious problems in the D60 that are firmware related and that are also being totally blown off by Canon, I suspect the only thing that will get the corporate culture to change is if people stop buying the digital products. (Although a class action suite might be nice too!)
With technology as complex as in these bodies I generally feel that one should wait about a year before buying the product. That's what I did for the D30 and have had no problems with it (same with the 1D). But I needed the D60 now, and am paying the price.
I hate to think how many problems will be in the 1Ds. I ain't going near that one for at least a year and until the price comes down to something realistic!

What are the problems?
Have you tried Canon repair, if they are not succesful you can request a refurbished camera!
If non are available, then maybe they can replace it, or you can try to get a refund!

Camera was at Canon repair two weeks ago. It came back with one old problem fixed and one new problem added (they upgraded the firmware while they had it). The main problem that ticks me off currently is that the new firmware does not name the files correctly (the numbers jump around randomly, with just a few hundred numbers out of the possible 10,000 used over and over). I need it for a few jobs currently, but when I have the time to be without it I will send it back to Canon.
But what is the point? The current version of the firmware is buggy and any body they send back (new/old/refurbished) will have the same firmware and the same problem. That really only leaves living with it until a new version of the firmware comes out, or trying for a refund.
There is also a problem that there is a time delay between the AWB measurement and the actual exposure. The time delay is long enough so that under changing color conditions the color balance in the exposure will be incorrect because the AWB measurement was too "old." I expect that problem will never be fixed, because it doesn't affect enough picture taking situation to make it worth their while to bother.

Did Canon change your custom function for file numbering??? What version of firmware do you have on your D60?

I don't want to sound like a cry-baby, but Canon has sold thousands of cameras that don't perform to specification. They need to fix this problem immediately.
I called tech support and their suggestion was to press the shutter button down half way after shooting to flush the buffer. On a $2200 camera body? I don't think so. If they can't fix this problem by the first of the year, I will be demanding a refund. I do love the images that it captures, but I am not so transfixed by the technology that I will tolerate a basic flaw such as this. If they want me to beta test there hardware, they can pay me to do so, not the other way around.

That won't flush the buffer, you need to press the review button to flush the buffer. The buffer is supposed to start flushing after your finger has been off the shutter button 2-3 seconds. I used to have this problem, had it for a little while after the last firmware upgrade and then it went away.
I don't have review turned on, it's a waste of system resources and I think partly the cause of all the problems... Think about it...having review on really complicates the operation of the camera. If you think about the most basic tasks the camera has to perform while you're trying to take your second picture.......
With review on:
- Picture taken
- name image
- store image in buffer (required in event shutter is pressed)
- commit image to memory card
- display image from memory card
With review off:
- Picture taken
- name image
- store image in buffer
- commit image when time allows..........
I work with networks and have been troubleshooting computers/networks for about 20 years. I'm not affiliated with Canon and the above is just an opinion.

Actually, it seems that the camera sometimes will stop writting to the card, and pressing the shutter button half way down will cause the camera to continue writting. If you call Canon Tech support they will tell you the same thing.

This is how Canon explained the problem to me on the phone as well. They mentioned casually like "downshift before you climb the hill," when you complain your car won't go up a steep hill in overdrive.
