Alright, let's see what all you photographers play!

My personal favorite is Let It Ride Poker but my hubbie is slowly getting me to play Texas Hold'em (on the rare instances we take the trip down to Atlantic City).
From the perspective of what gives the player the best odds of winning - craps and blackjack.
*Photo discussion kinda related - I really want to go back to Vegas now that I have a good camera and get shots of the theme hotels and other sights along the strip. Atlantic City doesn't offer much in the "glitz" department.

Blackjack and craps really are about the only thing you can play for profit. Poker and others may be fun but you'll never make any money.
That is unless you hit the superball keno or $50,000 bingo extravaganza.

Well that would explain why ESPN is so big on covering the "World Series of Craps..." ;)

I do a lot of work for casinos so maybe I shouldn't say this but the best bet in the casino is to keep your money in your pocket. In the long run the house always wins, they don't build those showplaces with the money that people take away from them.

That's for the excitement though. It's one of the few games that can have $600,000 pots when you get to the final table. Considering that 5000 people enter the world series at an entry fee of $10,000 and fewer than 1000 people even get their money back.
I thought we were talking about what's the best thing to play in a casino. The average person would be lucky to be up $100 after playing texas holdem all night. The average person can be up $100 playing blackjack in less than an hour. But no one would watch that on ESPN.

Have you ever hung around a crowded craps table? Some people can get pretty animated (especially when liquor is involved) and that makes for GREAT entertainment. If you set the minimum bets at a few thousand G's you might have the makings of an ESPN worthy competition.

I think your best bet at the casino is to walk in with two rolls of nickels and play the slots. You are guaranteed not to lose much that way. Then spend the rest on camera gear instead of giving it to the casino owner. Or you could go to a charity casino and figure that you win either way.

I don't gamble very much, but when I do I tend to stick to Jacks or Better video poker.

Craps is fun, but that game is all about bankroll management. At a $10 minimum table with 5x odds, don't line up without $1000. Even with that, you can be tapped out in an hour. But at least you will be ahead of the odds (the chance of busting out $1000 in an hour is pretty slim).
For the table games, 3 Card Poker is fun, but most casinos have altered the payback on the bonus wager on flushes from 4 units to 3; this is a big change. It means, don't play the bonus bet, and the bonus bet is the most fun. 4 Card Poker is a blast; but also, skip the bonus bet.
Caribbean Stud is a good game, but it's another one that needs a big bankroll to overcome the natural fluctuation of the odds.
Even though the best chance for the bettors is at craps and blackjack, the actual house return on those games is higher than it is for the slots! The reason for that is that very few players know optimum strategy and follow it. Go to any craps table, and you'll see people throwing bets on the field, on hard 8, on any craps, etc etc. It's nuts. Just play the pass line and the odds; after about the 6th roll for point your heart will be pounding fast enough, I assure you.

Anything you play is fun but remember the casino is in business to make money, wheich means most people lose money. Decide how much you can afford to lose and walk out when you've lost it. I think the slots are the most fun. But they are the casino's biggest money maker.

I like roulette. $50 with dollar chips can go a long way. When you hit straight up, it pays 35-1. Craps is a riot too, but there is just so much stuff going on, you really have to watch it for a bit to make sure you're following what's happening before you put your money down.
I have no expectation of winning, nor am I a real gambler. To me it's about what you want to pay for a night of entertainment. Set your limit and stay within it.
