Horrible lighting at ISO 400 in living room. 50mm at 1.8. Enjoy.

Did you use a tripod? 50mm's are soo cool. f1.8 is always a little soft, but nice anyway.
If your sister ever comes to New Zealand I would be more than happy to show her around, haha!!

This is kind of a cool shot. I like it. Might try burning the background just a bit to see if you can get more separation and therefore more emphasis on sis.

She looks underage to me... I'd say 16 or 17 at the most.

Try 15. And believe me I wish she was still 12.........being the older brother is 'tuff.

15. Wow. I would've guessed my age. Anyway, she's a real pretty girl. Lol, I'm not sure what to expect when *my* little sister turns 15. 5 more years to go...
The lighting's a little dull. But it's probably just the school's monitor. Nice shot ;)

She's... just... incredible. She reminds me of that girl on fast times, with the black hair, by the swimming pool. She's amazing.
Was your white balance off, or was that lighting on purpose?

How do you like that 50mm 1.8? I was thinking about getting it myself because i find myself shooting in low light so often. Is it a lot easier to shoot in low light than with the kit lens?

I'd imagine terribly so :) The kit lens' maximum aperature is only f/3.5, aaand it's only at around 18mm. If you shoot the 50mm f/2-2.8 and spike up the ISO I bet you'll get much nicer pictures handheld than the kit lens :)

the 50mm F1.8 is the best performance to price lens in the world :D £50 here in the UK and it blows anything else similarily priced away

The lighting is so yellow if you try to adjust the white balance in post processing it would destroy the pic. I'm sorry that the pic is so bad, I honestly didn't think I would get this many replies......I guess I know what sells on this forum. LOL As far as the 50mm 1.8.....tough to say because I have only used it with 1.8 aperature in low/crappy lighting conditions. And so far I am not very impressed, but it's not exactly like I broke the bank with this lens. What I realize is the 1.6x factor of the Dreb makes the 50mm not all that great of a portrait lens to me, I really want a 35mm L lens now :( .

in this first one with all the touchup, i wanna see her freakles, they're so pretty. and maybe more shadow to her skin tones around her cheeks. Theres some real critique, so you know I'm not just hitting on your sister like some people. ahem. hAHaha just kidding.

nice shot of your sister, Ian. its just a little too "warm" but still, its nice. if you ever do shoot her again, perhaps have the background a little less cluttered. otherwise, nice shot.
- so how are you going to manage taking the picture and holding a bat to fend off the boys from your sister?

Well she is beginning to take some model classes and all. As far as the bat goes, lets just say "i know people".....so if I don't have my eye on her someone does. Thanks for the critique's, I am experimenting with some lighting setups in my house right now. If I get a good looking setup I will take some pics tonight of her and post in a new thread.

It was her idea to take out the freakles. I personally like them in photo's but she doesn't.

It's a great shot. I was inspired to play with it in Photoshop a little.
http://gallery.photo.net/photo/3084765-md.jpg
Other than adjusting the levels and color balance all I did was add a few shadows and highlights to her face and bosum (sorry big brother) and I also blured the background a bit. I'm no expert with Photoshop by any means but I had fun working on this photo. Thanks.
By the way, consider getting her started in modeling. She might just have what it takes.

She has already started. And lucky me I get to grow my portfolio and hers at the same time :P . I like your edit to a extent.....but I just need to get some better pics up of her.

If you are shooting her again - custom white balance. She's a cute gal, show that to it's best advantage.
