I've just been given a copy of Extensis Portfolio as a gift. I've not installed it yet and wondered what people think of it as a piece of software. I'd never heard of it before to be honest.

Is it worthwhile installing or should I e-bay it? :D

It's supposed to be very very good - one of the top 3 maybe. It's just not cheap - like $200 US I think.

I would most definitely investigate it before selling it. Download the 30-day trial and take a look. It may be overkill - or you just might not like it - in which case you can sell it.

You don't say which version you have. Apparently the latest release is ver. 7.0.

There's a review of it in the latest version of Shutterbug (Feb, 2005). They say pretty good things about it.

A lot of pros use it apparently but then I guess Extensis would say that, I got a demo and tried it but to be honest could not get to grips with it. The only nice thing is being able to have previews of images stored off line ( if you keep a lot on CD's for example). Other than that I couldnt really see the point.

It is a god send. I do alot of tpyography/ adobe illustrator stuff, and it helps out so much with orgnaization of fonts.

I have used Portfolio for several years and recommend it highly. I like the user interface and folder synchronization. Metadata use gets better with each version. Current version is 8.5.
