Hey guys I have been looking around photography forums for a couple months now, I was going to buy a dslr but, I thought i need to "further my knowledge" before I spend the money. My question is how did you get started in photography and what advice do you have for a new comer? Thanks for your time

Mark

Hi mep42

Hey guys I have been looking around photography forums for a couple months now

Looks like you found the right one :p welcome to POTN

I started out with the entry level DSLR, the fantastic Rebel XT/350D and 18-55 kit lens, I soon found I needed a longer focal length, so I got a bargain Sigma 70-300, found I did not really go beyond 200mm, and settled for the Canon 70-200.

After a while I found my self struggling with the controls as I was shooting more action type shots, my new 30D offered what I needed for a body, and within my budget.

Very happy now and will only upgrade when I feel I am limited.

Work out what you will be, or would like to shoot and ask some more questions, you'll get the best advice here.
